In scientific terms Herbal medicine is also called as Botanical Medicine or Phytotherapy. The herb plant can be used for three things. First it can be used for scent, second use is adding flavor and nutrition’s to cooking dish and lastly it can be used to make medicine to cure diseases.


Many herbs carry excellent reputation in curing chronic diseases. However if you plan to take herb medicine, it is advisable to be in touch with your doctor to consult over herbs which you plan to use. Some of the herbs may not suit you if you are already taking medication, it may interfere with existing medication.

The use of herbs in day to day life has become so common that people use herb medicine for common cold, cough, flu, head ache, skin care etc. The main confidence among people is based upon two factors, first clinical trials have shown enough data that these herbs do heal common symptoms and secondly its use has become so common in mainstream.

Some of the common herbs used in America are Ginseng, Echinacea, goldenseal, Valerian, Kava, Chamomile, feverfew, ginger and Milk Thistle. However this is not complete list of herbs used in America. People use herbs for skin care also in bringing fresh look and healing broken or old skin. Some time people take multiple herbs to energize their body or enhance effectiveness of herbs.

The herbs have become so common that governments have approved certain herb medicine to be sold on counter shelf without prescriptions. This is possibly only after clinical trials have shown that these herbs are safe for consumption.
